PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT
Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with alpha-adrenomimetic activity, causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating the edema and hyperemia of the nasal mucosa, restoring the nasal passages, facilitating nasal breathing.
The effect of the drug comes in a few minutes after its application and lasts up to 10 hours.
PHARMACOKINETICS
With topical application, xylometazoline is practically not absorbed, so its concentrations in the blood plasma are very small (modern analytical methods do not determine).
INDICATIONS
Acute respiratory diseases with phenomena of rhinitis (rhinitis); acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, hay fever; otitis media (as part of combination therapy to reduce edema of the nasopharynx mucosa); Preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulation (rhinoscopy).
DOSING MODE
Intranasally.
Adults and children over 6 years of age have 1 injection of 0.1% xylometazoline solution in each nasal passage 2-3 times per day.
Children aged 2 to 6 years used 0.05% xylometazoline solution for 1 injection in each nasal passage 1-2 times per day.
Do not use the drug more than 3 times a day. The course of treatment for rhinitis should not exceed 5-7 days.
SIDE EFFECT
With frequent and / or prolonged use - irritation and / or dryness of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, burning, paresthesia, sneezing, hypersecretion; swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, vomiting, headache, insomnia, impaired vision; depression (with prolonged use of high doses).
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to the drug components, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, thyrotoxicosis, surgical interventions on the meninges (in the anamnesis), children under 2 years old for the application of 0.05% solution and up to 6 years for 0.1 % solution.
Do not use with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
Carefully. IHD (angina pectoris III-IV functional class), prostatic hyperplasia, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy, lactation.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
With caution: pregnancy, lactation.
APPLICATION FOR CHILDREN
Contraindication: children under 2 years old for applying 0.05% solution and up to 6 years for 0.1% solution.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Before application, it is necessary to clean the nasal passages. Do not use more than 7 days.
Usually xylometazoline does not affect the performance and does not hamper the work of drivers of vehicles or the management of moving machinery.
In some cases, frequent and / or prolonged use of the drug may lead to adverse reactions that disrupt the ability to drive or operate machinery.
OVERDOSE
Symptoms: decreased body temperature, bradycardia, increased blood pressure.
Treatment: symptomatic.
DRUG INTERACTION
Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
