PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT
Combined drug.
Bromhexine has mucolytic (secretolitic), expectorant and weak antitussive effect. Mucolytic effect is associated with depolymerization and liquefaction of mucoprotein and mucopolysaccharide fibers.
Dextromosthorfan increases the sensitivity threshold of the cough center of the medulla oblongata, without leading to the depression of the respiratory center, has an antitussive and sedative effect, does not cause an addictive effect to the drug and does not possess an analgesic effect.
Ammonium chloride has expectorant properties.
INDICATIONS
- to relieve the symptoms of "colds", flu, ARVI, accompanied by a cough.
DOSING MODE
Adults and children over 12 years: inside 2 teaspoons 2-3 times a day.
Children from 6 to 12 years: inside by 1 / 2-1 teaspoon 3-4 times a day.
SIDE EFFECT
Dyspeptic phenomena, exacerbation of peptic ulcer, allergic reactions (skin rash, rhinitis, etc.), increased serum transaminase levels, drowsiness, sleep disturbance, increased excitability (especially in children).
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- peptic ulcer (in the stage of exacerbation);
- simultaneous reception of other drugs containing substances that are part of Zedex;

OVERDOSE
Dangerous for life overdose in the application of Bromhexine in humans are unknown.
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal disorders. Dextromethorphan can cause excitation of the central nervous system.
Treatment: gastric lavage, reception of activated charcoal, symptomatic therapy.
DRUG INTERACTION
Zedex can be prescribed concurrently with other drugs used in the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases. Zedex is not prescribed concomitantly with antitussive agents (including those containing codeine).
Bromhexine, which is part of Zedex, promotes the penetration of antibiotics (erythromycin, cephalexin, oxytracycline, ampicillin, amoxicillin) into the lung tissue, but its combined use with salicylates, phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone can cause severe irritation of the gastric mucosa. Alcohol, which is part of the syrup, can change the effect of other medicines.
Because the drug includes dextromethorphan, it is contraindicated simultaneous use with MAO inhibitors (possibly action on the central nervous system and pronounced respiratory depression), amiodarone (may inhibit the metabolism of dextromethorphan in the liver and increase its toxicity), antidepressants serotonin reuptake inhibitors (fluoxetine, paroxetine). Dextromethorphan can potentiate the analgesic effect of opioids.
