PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT
The blocker of histamine H 1 -receptors from the group of ethanolamines. Has a sedative, hypnotic effect. Reduces the time of falling asleep, increases the duration and quality of sleep, does not change the phase of sleep. Has anti-allergic effect. It has m-cholinoblocking activity.
Severity of sedation is comparable with barbiturates. The duration of action is 6-8 hours.
PHARMACOKINETICS
After ingestion C max in blood plasma is achieved after 2-3 hours T 1/2 - about 10 hours.
INDICATIONS
Sleep disorders, insomnia. Allergic reactions, itchy skin. As a component of combined drugs used for colds, cough.
DOSING MODE
Is taken internally. Adults with insomnia, sleep disorders - 15-25 mg for 15-30 minutes before sleep. With allergic reactions - in doses up to 25 mg every 4-6 hours.
Children aged 6-12 years - according to 6.25-12.5 mg if necessary - every 4-6 hours.
The maximum daily intake for adults is 150 mg.
SIDE EFFECT
Perhaps: lethargy, drowsiness, dry mouth, accommodation disorders, constipation, urination disorders.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Closed-angle glaucoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia, urinary retention, lactation, children under 6 years (as an antihistamine), children and adolescents under 15 years (as a sedative-hypnotics), hypersensitivity to doxylamine.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Contraindicated during lactation.
APPLICATION FOR CHILDREN
Contraindicated in children under 6 years (as an antihistamine), at the age of 15 years (as a sedative-hypnotics).

DRUG INTERACTION
With simultaneous use with antidepressants, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, clonidine, opioid analgesics, neuroleptics, tranquilizers, the oppressive effect of doxylamine on the central nervous system increases.
With simultaneous use with atropine and atropine-like agents, imipramine, antiparkinsonian drugs with anticholinergic action, disopyramide, phenothiazine derivatives, the risk of development of anticholinergic side effects (dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention) increases.
With simultaneous use with ethanol, the sedative effect of doxylamine is enhanced.
