PIZOTIFEN (Pizotifen) *. 4 - (1-Metil-4- piperiliden) -9, 10-dihydro-4 H-benzo [4, 5] tsiklogepta [1 2-b] Thiophene.

     Available as maleate.
     Synonyms : Sandomigran, Litec, Pizotylin, Sandolitec, Sandomigran, Sandomigrin, Sanmigran, Sanomigran.
     On chemical structure similar to ketotifenu (see), in part to tsiprogeptadinu (see), and amitriptyline (see).
     Is serotonin antagonist (S 1) receptors; Also protivogistaminnoe and moderate antiholinergicheskoe effect.
     Applied to prevent migraine attacks.
     Assign inside usually dose 0.5 mg three times a day. In some cases, a sufficient dose of 0.5 mg per day in January, in other cases, have to increase the dosage to 1 mg three times a day.
     Sometimes pizotifen more effective than drugs group ergotamine (see).
     In applying pizotifena possible nausea, sleepiness, fatigue, increased appetite with increasing body mass. The drug should not be appointed transport drivers and others whose work requires quick mental and physical reactions.
     The drug increases the effect of tranquilizers, sedatives, antidepressants drugs, alcohol. There should be appointed pizotifen with MAO inhibitors.
     The drug is contraindicated in pregnancy, zakrytougolnoy glaucoma, difficulty urinating.
     Product : pill, containing 0.5 mg (500 ug) pizotifena (corresponding to 725 µ g pizotifena maleate).
