INSTRUCTION FOR THE SPECIALIST.

Description of the drug approved by the manufacturer for the printed edition of 2015.

PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT

A drug for moisturizing and protecting the cornea.
Ottagel ® contains a carbomer, which is a high molecular weight carboxyvinylpolymer (polyacrylate). The carbomer increases the viscosity of the tear, forming a protective moisturizing film on the surface of the cornea, thickens the mucinous and aqueous layers of the tear film.Oftagel ® reduces irritation symptoms associated with dry eye syndrome, which includes compensatory lacrimation, itching, burning, foreign body sensation in the eye and visual fatigue.
Prolonged contact of the tear film with the cornea has a beneficial effect with a decrease in the secretion of tear fluid.
With simultaneous application Oftagel ® can prolong the absorption of other ophthalmic drugs.
PHARMACOKINETICS

Due to the relatively large size of the carbomer molecule, penetration through the cornea is unlikely.
