PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT
Antituberculous antibiotic.
It acts bacteriostatically or bactericidal, depending on the concentration in the focus of infection and the sensitivity of microorganisms. It is an analog of the amino acid D-alanine. The activity of L-alanine-racemase enzymes, which converts L-alanine to D-alanine, and D-alanyl-D-alanine synthetase, including D-alanine to the pentapeptide, necessary for constructing the bacterial cell wall, competitively depresses enzymes.
It is active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium avium.

INDICATIONS
Tuberculosis (as part of combination therapy), atypical mycobacterial infections (MAC infections).

DOSING MODE
When administered orally for adults, the dose is 0.25-1 g / day in several doses.
The maximum dose is 1 g / day.
For children - 10-20 mg / kg / day in divided doses.

SIDE EFFECT
From the side of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety, confusion, depression, difficulty speaking, nightmarish dreams, muscle twitching, tremor, motor anxiety, peripheral neuropathy, convulsive seizures.

Allergic reactions: a skin rash is possible.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Depression, psychosis, alcoholism, impaired renal function, epilepsy, organic diseases of the central nervous system, convulsive fits in the anamnesis, pregnancy, hypersensitivity to cycloserine.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Contraindicated in pregnancy.

Cycloserine excreted in breast milk, so if you need to use during lactation, you should decide whether to stop breastfeeding.

APPLICATION FOR FUNCTIONS OF THE LIVER
Contraindicated in the violation of kidney function.

APPLICATION FOR CHILDREN
The application is possible according to the dosing regimen.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
With monotherapy with cycloserine, the rapid development of mycobacterial resistance is possible, so only combination therapy should be used.

Careful observation of patients receiving cycloserine in a dose of more than 500 mg / day is necessary to identify signs of toxic effects on the central nervous system.

During the treatment period, do not drink alcohol.

DRUG INTERACTION
With simultaneous use with ethanol, the risk of convulsive seizures increases;
with ethionamide, isoniazid - the risk of developing side reactions from the side of the central nervous system increases.
