PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT
The antituberculous agent is the sodium salt of aminosalicylic acid.
Has a bacteriostatic effect. It is active only against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Compared to other antituberculosis drugs, it has a weaker effect. When applied as monotherapy to aminosalicylic acid, resistance develops rapidly.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Absorption is high.
When the inflammation of the meninges penetrates into the cerebrospinal fluid at a moderate degree. Easily penetrates through the histogematic barriers and is distributed in tissues. Exposed to metabolism. A 50% dose is determined in urine in the form of an acetylated derivative. T 1/2 - 30 min. The total clearance depends on both the metabolic rate and the excretion of the kidneys.
INDICATIONS
Treatment of tuberculosis in the absence of the possibility of using other more powerful means.

DOSING MODE
Is taken internally.
For adults, the daily dose is 10-12 g, the frequency of taking 2-3 times / day. For children - 150-300 mg / kg / day, the frequency of reception 3-4 times / day.
SIDE EFFECT
Possible: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypokalemia.

Rarely: skin reactions, fever, arthralgia, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, a syndrome similar to infectious mononucleosis, jaundice, encephalitis, renal insufficiency, hemolytic anemia in patients with deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, agranulocytosis, eosinophilia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia.

In isolated cases: psychosis.

With prolonged use in high doses: hypothyroidism, goiter.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Renal and / or hepatic insufficiency, hepatitis, cirrhosis, amyloidosis of internal organs, peptic ulcer of stomach and duodenum, myxedema, epilepsy, pregnancy, hypersensitivity to aminosalicylic acid and its salts.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
It is believed that aminosalicylates used in the first trimester of pregnancy can cause birth defects of the fetus.
Aminosalicylic acid is excreted in small amounts with breast milk.
APPLICATION FOR FUNCTIONS OF THE LIVER
Contraindicated in renal failure.
With special care apply in patients with impaired renal function.
APPLICATION FOR VIOLATIONS OF THE FUNCTION OF KIDNEYS
Contraindicated in hepatic insufficiency, hepatitis, liver cirrhosis.
With special care apply in patients with impaired liver function.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Aminosalicylic acid and its salts should be used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs.

With extreme caution apply in patients with impaired renal and hepatic function.

In the presence of aminosalicylates, glucosuria tests in which reagents containing copper are used are disrupted.

DRUG INTERACTION
Aminosalicylic acid increases T 1/2 isoniazid.

The side effects of aminosalicylates and salicylates are additive.

Probenecid can increase the toxicity of aminosalicylate by disturbing its renal excretion and increasing plasma concentration.
