PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT
Gaviscon В® Double Action is a combination of alginate and antacids (calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate).
When ingested, the drug reacts quickly with the acidic contents of the stomach. In this case, the alginate gel is formed, which has an almost neutral pH value. The gel forms a protective coating on the surface of the stomach contents and lasts up to 4 hours, effectively preventing the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux. In case of regurgitation, the gel enters the esophagus, where it reduces the irritation of the mucous membrane. Calcium carbonate quickly neutralizes the hydrochloric acid of gastric juice, making it easier to feel a heartburn. This effect is enhanced by the presence of sodium bicarbonate in the formulation of the sodium, which also has a neutralizing effect.
PHARMACOKINETICS
The mechanism of action of the active substances of the drug does not depend on the absorption into the systemic bloodstream.
INDICATIONS
- symptomatic treatment of diseases associated with digestive disorders, high acidity of gastric juice and gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn, acidic eructation), a feeling of heaviness in the stomach, discomfort after eating.
DOSING MODE
The drug is taken orally.
Adults and children over 12 years of age are prescribed 10-20 ml of the suspension after meals and at bedtime (up to 4 times / day). The maximum daily dose is 80 ml.
For elderly patients, dose adjustment is not required.
SIDE EFFECT
In rare cases (<1/10 000), allergic reactions are possible (hives, bronchospasm, anaphylactic reactions).
The intake of calcium carbonate in doses more than recommended, can cause alkalosis, hypercalcemia, milk-alkaline syndrome, rebound phenomenon, constipation.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- children's age till 12 years;
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.
Carefully:
- severe renal dysfunction;
- hypophosphatemia;
- hypercalcemia;
- nephrocalcinosis.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
The drug can be used during pregnancy and during lactation.
APPLICATION FOR FUNCTIONS OF THE LIVER

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
In 10 ml of the suspension contains 127.25 mg (5.53 mmol) of sodium. This should be considered when it is necessary to maintain a diet with a limited salt content, for example, with congestive heart failure and kidney dysfunction.
In 10 ml of the suspension contains 130 mg (3.25 mmol) of calcium. Therefore, care should be taken in the treatment of patients with hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis and recurrent formation of kidney stones containing calcium.
The drug Gaviscon В® Double Action contains antacids, which can mask the symptoms of serious gastrointestinal diseases. Perhaps a decrease in the effectiveness of the drug in patients with a very low level of acidity of gastric juice.
Children with gastroenteritis or suspected renal failure have an increased risk of hypernatremia.
Do not use the drug for a long time. If there is no improvement, the patient should consult a doctor within 7 days.
Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and manage mechanisms
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms, as well as to engage in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.
OVERDOSE
Symptoms: flatulence.
Treatment: symptomatic therapy.
DRUG INTERACTION
The composition of the drug is calcium carbonate, which shows antacid activity, so between taking the drug Gaviscon В® Double Action and other drugs should be at least 2 hours, especially when used with blockers of histamine H 2 -receptors, antibiotics from the tetracycline group, digoxin, fluoroquinolones , iron salts, ketoconazole, neuroleptics, levothyroxine sodium, penicillamine, beta-adrenoblockers, GCS, chloroquine and diphosphates.
