PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT
A broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent for the treatment of gastrointestinal infections (intestinal antiseptic), a derivative of nitrofuran.
In high doses has a bactericidal effect, in smaller doses bacteriostatic.
It is active against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp .;
Gram-negative bacteria: Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Proteus spp.
PHARMACOKINETICS
Virtually not absorbed from the digestive tract.
It acts in the lumen of the intestine.
INDICATIONS
Acute diarrhea of ​​bacterial genesis (in the absence of suspicion of invasion).

DOSING MODE
Adults - 200 mg 4 times / day.
Children aged 1 month to 2.5 years - 100 mg 2-3 times / day; older than 2.5 years - 200 mg 3 times / day. The duration of the course of treatment is no more than 7 days.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to nitrofuran derivatives.

Do not use in newborns (age less than 1 month) and premature infants.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Nifuroxazide may be used during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) according to the indications.

APPLICATION FOR CHILDREN

Children aged 1 month to 2.5 years are prescribed 100 mg 2-3 times / day; older than 2.5 years - 200 mg 3 times / day. The duration of the course of treatment is no more than 7 days.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
The use of nifuroxazide does not exclude the need for rehydration therapy in the event that there are symptoms of dehydration.

Before use in children older than 1 month should be excluded congenital deficiency of enzymes that break down sucrose.

DRUG INTERACTION
Simultaneous administration of ethanol can cause symptoms of hypersensitivity.
